Plumber quote template

A plumbing quote has to do two things at once: show the customer exactly what they are paying for, and protect you when the job turns out to be bigger behind the wall. Itemise labour, parts and call-out separately, state what is excluded, and you will win more jobs and argue about fewer invoices.

What to include in a plumbing job quote

  • Call-out or diagnostic fee, and whether it is credited against the job
  • Labour as hours × rate, or a fixed price per task
  • Parts and fixtures with brand/model so customers can compare
  • Permits, inspections and disposal of old equipment
  • Exclusions: drywall repair, tiling, hidden pipe damage
  • Warranty on parts and on your workmanship

Pricing tips for plumbers

  • Quote fixed prices for common jobs (heater swap, toilet install) and hourly for diagnostics — customers prefer certainty.
  • Add a contingency line or a clear 'if we find…' clause for work behind walls and under floors.
  • Show emergency or after-hours rates up front so they are not a surprise on the invoice.
  • Keep a saved list of standard parts and labour lines so every quote is consistent and takes a minute.

Plumber quote FAQ

Should a plumbing quote include parts and labour separately?

Yes. Splitting them lets the customer see where the money goes and makes it easy to adjust if they supply their own fixtures.

How long should a plumbing quote be valid?

Usually 14–30 days. Parts prices change, so set a valid-until date on every quote.

Do I need to charge for quotes?

Most plumbers quote small jobs for free and charge a diagnostic fee for leaks or faults that need investigation. State it clearly either way.
